Internship: Game Designer

As a game design intern at Winterkeep, you will be part of the development team and work hands-on with game design for a PC strategy game in active development. The internship focuses on contributing to real design work and supporting systems and features that are part of the game.

There are no formal requirements, but prior exposure to game design, systems design, or strategy games as part of your education is a plus. An extra bonus is if you have insight into classic TTRPGs such as Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder or something similar.

What you will work on

We are open for two types of Game Designers:

System Designer: You will work with game design tasks related to systems, mechanics, and player facing features. This can include designing and iterating on gameplay systems, balancing, content setup, and supporting implementation together with programmers.

Content Designer:  You will work by scripting content into the game, creating events, stories, creatures and partaking in the world building. We expect you to implement things in the game so you must have at least basic technical skills, but most important are your narrative skills and a storyteller mindset.

What you will learn

You will learn how game design is practiced in a professional development team, with a focus on systems driven design for strategy games. You will gain insight into design processes, iteration, and how ideas move from concept to implementation.

You will work closely with programmers, artists, and other designers, and learn how collaboration across disciplines shapes the final player experience.

Application

When applying, we encourage you to describe what type of game design you are most interested in working with and what you want to develop further during your internship.

Send your internship application to internship@winterkeep.com and make sure we get all the relevant information about you and your internship.
